PERSONAL ACTIVITIES

Over the years, I have been involved in many activities which have gained me enriching and fulfilling experiences!

1) China Cultural Trip (November 2006)
This was a school trip planned by the Chinese Department. I was fortunate enough to be able to be in this cultural trip with my friends! We went to many different places in China such as Cheng Du and managed to visit different tourist attraction filled with cultural backgrounds. The 11 days trip was fun-filled and enriching! I was lucky enough to be able to learn some kung-fu from the monks of Shaolin Temple!

2) Outward Bound Singapore (January 2007)
The start of a new year in school was action-packed as the entire Secondary 3 cohort from Bukit Batok Secondary School went to Pulau Ubin for Outward Bound! Through the 4D3N camp, it enabled me to stretched myself physically and mentally. We trekked from our campsite all the way till the highest peak of the island all by ourselves using the compass and map navigating the routes to take. We also spent a day out of our campsite which we have to make do with the 'natural toilets' - where you can just do your business anywhere!

3) Outward Bound Brunei Darussalam (December 2007)

As I was a student leader, I was fortunate to be chosen to go for Outward Bound Brunei Darussalam (OBBD)! It was a 14 days adventure at Brunei together with cadets of the NCC and the local students. Throughout the 14 days, it allowed me to learn to be more independent, bolder and also gain me a few Brunei friends which I'm still in contact with up till now. I went through many adventures: Abseiling (40M), Kayaking (15KM), Trekking in the Temburong Jungle and Jogging(7KM). I had an encounter with a leech and many mosquitoes. This was one of the best trips I ever went and every single detail of the trip is still etched in my mind.

4) Mission Trip (September 2009)
Cambodia MT 2009: Kampong Speu
With a little Cambodian boy that I met in the slum area
After a year of break of going overseas (due to Os), I was on a plane to Cambodia for Mission Trip with my some of my church friends. This trip was really life-changing for me. I realised I am so blessed and fortunate to be in Singapore. When we were there, we did community work in a Home. This Home consisted of orphans and children whose parents don't want them due to financial problems. I taught the children English and played with them. Seeing those smiles on their faces melts my heart on the spot. We celebrated Mid-Autumn Festival with them since it was during the season. The colourful lanterns lit up in the darkness and it was such a beautiful sight. Connection between the children and us grew so much within the 5 days that most of us left the Home in tears. The mission of the trip was to impact people in Cambodia. However, I think most of us were impacted by them more than we impacted them.

5) YOG Pre-Opening Ceremony (6 August 2010)
Singapore is the host country of the first Youth Olympic Games. I am proud to be part of the pre-opening ceremony of YOG! The pre-opening ceremony is to welcome the torch of flame into Singapore. My involvement in the pre-opening ceremony is to be part of the mass dance together with the rest of my church. I'll be performing in two segments which are 'Sun and Earth' and 'Mexico'. Trainings have been ongoing since the last week of June till now. Performance will be on 6 August 2010 at NUS Field. I can't wait for the actual day to arrive! It's such a prestigious event that not everyone will get a chance to be part of it!
